Good Hiring? I would say Nope. Why?
I have been working along with coworkers and ever few of deaf coworkers. Okay, let me tell you little about past of my job history. When I got my first job position as Mailroom Clerical. They knew I am young and start full time position. I started to speak on my own voice but epic fail. Next few years, I promoted to Administration Assistant Support. I thought it would be wonderful to work with coworkers as team for next few years. More epic fail due to new management wanted me to remove and not want me to be display as worker. I was laid off because of changing location and age.
Next job, I was hired. I keep my own think and get along with coworkers till I met one deaf worker. She is more advanced than me and she does speak well. I felt so low and work harder alike hers. My relationship with love and job become more tough like juggle. I dropped the ball and followed my love relationship. More epic fail. Next, met more deaf workers who able to speak. I felt more down and wondering how I turn that to them instead of deaf person who able to speak?
Moved to other state, got job full time position and excited to work there. One deaf person able to speak but can’t read lip! I can read lip well but can’t speak. I have to interrupting for her when have to understand what is going on in meetings. She wanted a live interrupter to communicate with better. I agreed. Along the years, working together till she decides to withdraw, and force retired. I stayed for more years till laid off due to changing company.
Many times, I am looking for a job that matches me and interviews me. They always asked me to speak, and I told them no because I can’t. They wanted someone to speak and not want deal with deaf person who can’t speak. I met few deaf people who work and able to speak. I noticed that is not right thing to do. Why have with them wanted that? CI (Cochlear Implants) people were hired so quickly! They think it is great for deaf able to speak. Well, they are wrong. CI people sometimes get in lost comminate or misunderstand because they born deaf and not training alike hearing does.
Now Hard of Hearing does speak and hired, too. I met few and had one friend who raised with me in school years. They brag how they get job easy and etc. It is not about them disabled and it is about their experience talents or degrees. Not deaf who are not able to speak and experience talents or universities are not hiring.
You decide what you see in their resumes and not realized that person is deaf?
