Movie Subtitled

I still not understand why deaf kept on complained with closed captioned on movies.

DVDs and Movies already have subtitled on setting menu so why don’t bother to check that?  It always there all the time for SPANISH, FRANCE, DUTCH, or CC for the deaf.  I always watch with subtitled movies on DVDs so therefore, can’t live without subtitled if you are FRANCE or SPANISH.

I love to watch foreign movies too.  They always has subtitled.  Why not?  Deaf prefers using the ASL (America Sign Language) on television then use the subtitled for other who can read like foreign movies does.   DUH.

In the movie theaters, no CC there.  I know there is few theaters does offer CC while filming.  Some has devices to use like rearview mirror (closed captioned was on back wall), glasses device, or cup holder.  Those are very painfully for deaf.  I had it once, it was cup holder and had to slid down in the seat so I can read CC from it.  Wow.

ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) in general

Why I choice this title? I have seen and heard from people that they had rough accessible requested, but rejected for some reasons. Let’s talk about this. One thing, I not know much about blind or wheelchair faces but am sure they had same issues as deaf does. I would know if you know and tell me what is their faces with ADA by doctors or companies. You might give comments here. No negative and positive.

One person just information me that her new doctor assistant has no idea about ADA and insulted her that she need a sign language interpreter for doctor’s appointment. She told the assistant that doctor know her well and not need to ask for sign language interpreter. You know ADA does offers sign language interpreter, not YOU. You have nothing with that because all doctor visits should knows ADA rights.

Many times, I come up with interviews or given speak.  No one knows about ADA on sign language or accessible with my needs.

I was once learning court reporting class in school year.  It was realized that it is good for person do the reporting into closed captioned in the meeting or games.  It was perfect for EVERYONE because you never know what you hear.   EVERYONE need that closed captioned, not only deaf.   You can read CC on television, movies, billboards, or signs in stadium.  ADA is in everywhere that you need or seen in stadium or restaurant.

Back to ADA.  Lot of people not know about it because it is slow process to them.  We do see lot of processes with ADA annuals.  It is costly, given motions, or how many needs.  That.  Phones has changed. Fire drill has changed. Doorbell has changed. Subtitled has changed. Interpreter for the ANY languages has changed. Wheelchairs accessible has changed.  Blind accessible changed.  Deaf accessible has changed.  You can see on website, Harris Communications there is lot of ADA possible.

I come up without ADA and it was pretty tough to face with….many times.  ADA comes to me and felt like chip off from my shoulder.

ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) on the trip

Last weekend, I went on trip for Deaf Mardi Gras party there.  I barely told hotel that I am deaf (hearing impaired) so just come as I am and check in.   The hotel notification me for accessible room and surprised me.   The room is most like for wheelchair and also for the blind because it has space for them to walk by.   That room has doorbell for the deaf., too. That is great accessible for the deaf have that doorbell is important to them because it is MUST on list.  Okay, let me tell you about that doorbell, it is normal looking doorbell on the wall outside.   We (deaf) can’t hear the bell while inside so have special light that will flash when you are inside.

Old times, we (deaf) always left the door unlock for them come in and out.  You know deadlock left open that will block one doorframe so we can come in and out easier, not have close in.   Deaf loves to chat till they drops so no worries about locked in or have to knock SO LOUD to make vibration feeling.

If you ask me about phone at the hotel.  I not see any hotels has phone for the deaf BUT know one of hundred hotels have it.  TTY (teletypewriter) for the deaf is OLD but some companies stubborn have them.  They not know there is VIDEO PHONE already in ADA list that MUST for the deaf.   TTY is almost gone, some like airports and restaurant that has phone booth still had TTY there.  Oh boy, nothing news.  They need update with ADA and install in for VP (video phone) for all airports, restaurants, and hotels.   I can understand about private and third party.  I am left this to you.

Also, I went on airplane hop for vacation last year.  I found one in Buffalo, NY have VP!  I was shocked to see that. Not many those have that.  I was so glad that airport has been notification me as deaf and put me in special call like disabilities.

Brave but not hearing

I know I been attended to many events but not hearing.  As deaf person always enjoyed to go to any events like bowling event today.  There is meet up at bowling.  They having meet and greet.  I came as myself but unfortunately, not hearing!

Brave is wonderful thing to meet and greet but not hearing.  I love to meeting new people and maybe old faces.  They are hearing and chat over my head.   I am only one who quiet whole time in this group.

Ouch.  When deaf events come in other days, come as myself.  They would rejected me because I am hearing.   I am not hearing, brave to meet and greet, and quiet whole time.

Which you choose?

Invite me or Rejected me?   Humor me.

Job Resume

Funny thing, I had resume that typed great and perfect, then people loved it.  They called me and learned I am deaf then DUMP me for no reason. Many years, I have told them I have lot of office experiences and do anything they could name it.  They not want deaf to work for them, why they not think that deaf has weak job experiences?

I remember from my dad who is manager of company.  He said, “you have to sell yourself to them.”  I did but they find out I am deaf then DUMP me by phone calls.  I come to company in person without INTERPRETER and had interview with them.  They won’t believe me because I am very strong person and challenged with them.  They falls in me and hires without hang up on me.

Resume send and mailed.  They called, hang on me without realized that I have been more in business than they think I would fail.   When I learned about that rumor and proved them wrong. I am normal human that cannot hear at all.  I come as normal and do same things.

One person I met who is deaf but can speak.  She never understand the lipreading and required interpreter to communication with, no matter ever she can speak.  She went to deaf school in her life.  They think she not need that entry so when they hired me as because of her job.  When I come to work and they noticed me much different than her.   I was mainstreamed in public school all the years, had interpreter in the classroom.  I CAN READ LIPS and understand them faster than her.  I don’t speak at all.  If you would like to hear me then you will laugh at me because I speak like kid!

Anything related to this.  Please do.

Bright from driving at night

I have seen lot of people has not realized that they are using the FOG Light on their cars.  It is really bright when driving at night.  I have checked my car does not use fog light as it is off unless I would use it when I need them.

It actually blinds us when drive at night.  What about LED lights?  Oh, yes it is very different than fog lights on cars.  LED headlights been bright and see better but driving pass them is dangerous.  If you had the dim LED headlights then will be great!  Many times, they not take them down to dim.  Oh boy, I can’t see anything on rear mirror or try to protect the light reflect from mirror.

I drive one hand on wheel and other hand protect the light from mirror that reflects.  Please fix that.

Handicapped Height Fear

Okay, this is pretty interesting title because I have seen one or few.  I know there is lot of fearless but this one I have seen.

My friends has CP (cerebral palsy).  One man and one woman.  At first,  let’s say this woman who is CP but she can walk well.  She has some CP in her legs and back.  She can play softball, golfing, and used running but now can’t because worse in the ages.  I never think she has NO Balance!  I invited her and her friends to TOPGOLF without warning.   I took the bay which is on 2nd floor flat.  She did not say anything till she get on the tee line and turned to us.  She said, “no balance and can’t stand straight because of height”  I realized we are on main level, not lower level and wanted to ask manager.  Her friend told me, “don’t worry she will be fine because she is very good at golfing.”  I sat down and watch her while she do the golf.   She was successful.  I relieved.  How?  She has her friend stand behind her so she can stop friend from falling and her other club beside her foot.  Next tee time, she did herself success alone with her club beside her foot.   Next time, I know CP people need a floor to ground instead of upper floor.

Okay, this man who has right leg and arm as CP.  He can walk just fine but limping because of right side.  He come over my work at TOPGOLF and he stand front of 3rd floor (Upper level).  Lucky, he was stand behind the tee lines, not know how fear in height to him.  He asked me to show the tee line so I lead him to there.  He grabs my arm, “don’t go that far.”  I popped my mind from that lady last time.  I said, “I know.  I try to show you.  Not go over the tee line.  Just show you what it look like.”   He stand behind me where I stand on tee line.  I showed him about screen and golfing.  He wanted go main floor and lower level so I took him 2nd floor (main level).  He said, “still can’t go there on tee lines and can do the golf little on left.”  I smiled at him because I am lefty at swing but I am RIGHT handed.  I took him down to lower level (1st floor)  and he walk while I was behind him.  He walked to TEE LINE himself!  He turned to me and smiled at me.  He walk to me and hugged me because he can play golf on lower level!  I felt relieved, too.

Cerebral Palsy has no balance but can have fearless.   I seen a lot of handicapped people has NO BALANCE but has fearless.  Wheelchair, Blind, Deaf or CP.   They have brave experiences what they loved to do.  Boxing, weightlifting, swimming, softball, golf, or tennis, etc.   Many people has fearless so handicapped do have that too.

Prize Jobs

I am sure you have been heard about prize jobs.  I am here to speak of my view and aware about it.

One of my friend who is deaf and played tennis for deaf Olympics in 1985, that is what I believe she won the bronze medal.   She been work at church as Youth Director for more than 15 years and now she is Bus Driver for the deaf school.

My former boyfriend won many trophies for bowling in his 10 years sport when he was kid but grown out after teen years.  He wanted to be engineer in the future but he is current working at UPS (Untied Poral Service) as data entry operator.  He is also Deaf and still bowls.

I met one guy who work for Home Depot and skated for the Olympics in 1994, won the gold medal.  Yes he is hearing and not hear from him after won the medal.  He still go back to work at Home Depot?

Oh I have two MVPs and medals in softball for more than 30 years.  Victory team for Track and Swimming in high school and was captain for girls swim team in middle school.  I won All Star in volleyball and won champion twice at bowling as adult.   I am deaf and had low income career.  That means it is not worth for me?  I know I have guts that I have been successes with my life, not know about others.

All Olympics athletes got the medals and ended up as career as professional.   Some does gone to old job or gone to study for whatever careers they choose.   That does mean they had good, better or best job in the future or current?

Questions:

  •  Medals or Trophies?
  •  Should take career as old or new after won?
  •  Study new careers?
  •  Growing up career?
  •  Professional able to go back to job as before?
  •  What is different between deaf and hearing athletes?

Topgolf

Two places at Topgolf, I wanted to attend so I did.  One place has good place and good crowd but other place has bad place and bad crowd.  I am sure there is diverse in different cities.  I wanted to drop two places here.  You decide.

Let’s say here, good place and good crowd.  Topgolf has better view of sightseeing and better culture of city.  They had better social media and enjoy playing games there like Shuffleboard, Cornholes, Tumbling Timbers and Pool tables, too.   They have very friendly and causal hosts.  They loves people and share with the guests to feel warm welcome.  Kids and Adults loves to come and play, no matter what they having so there is lot to do to keep them busy, not boring or playless.   Grill and bars was great services and meals was so great.  It fits the guests and enjoy the day or night.   You won’t believe that they had SUNRISE Burger!  It was so interesting and taste different.  All meals are sort of spicy but worth it!  You better watch out what you orders.  Smile.   Drinks are great too.  You can keep Golf Bag when you order mixed drinks.  They has good smelling, cleaning restrooms.  They keep going and going, not allow restroom left out messy.  They kept Imop cleaning daily so no messy left for next guests.  The guests been waiting in the line for few hours to play or eat because so popular place.  The associates are very aware about cleaning and keep the games going, enjoy the day!  The associates welcome you with warmly smile and share with your humor of sense.  I would say this is better place I would continue attending and play golfing!

Order at restaurant

I been went to McDonald’s and notice there is order machine stand before cashier.  I think it is great for the deaf to order there and easy for them to handle.  It accept the card, not cash.  I ordered few orders and sit at table with number call.  The number call will let them know what is the ordered and deliver to me.  That is wonderful thing for me.

Last night, I went to Taco Bell for fast dinner.  I was so thrilled to see that order machine there before the cashier.  I started to order but notice there is card machine.  I only had cash on me so I had to cancelled the order to force me to speak to the cashier.  Yes, I did not speak but did write what I orders.  The cashier was so nice and understanding.  I was so relief and get my dinner.  I was smile at drink fountain because there is Dr. Pepper!  Most of Taco Bell has Pepsi, no Dr. Pepper.   While I was sit and eat my pizza.  I watched the two men ordered theirs at the cashier and find themselves drink.  You know I can read lip so one of them said, GREAT Dr. Pepper!  I giggled.
